Today is the deadline for clubs to name their 25 man squads for the next round of UEFA competition, meaning another indicator of the players who will be used by Mister Delneri in the coming months. Here’s the list in full
Goalkeepers: Manninger, Storari, Costantino
Defenders: Motta, Chiellini, Traoré, Bonucci, Grygera, Rinaudo, De Ceglie, Legrottaglie, Camilleri
Midfielders: Felipe Melo, Sissoko, Marchisio, Lanzafame, Pepe, Martinez, Krasic, Buchel, Spinazzola
Strikers: Iaquinta, Del Piero, Amauri, Giannetti
The main points here are the continued freezing out of Grosso & Salihamidzic, both of whom have been kept on the fringes in pre-season & both were offered chances to move away during the transfer window. Not doing so at this stage of their careers is strange but sadly far from uncommon.
Gigi Buffon not being included shows a determination from the club not to repeat past mistakes of rushing him back from injury, & with more than capable deputies in Storari & Manninger this is a wise move.
Alberto Aquilani & Fabio Quagliarella also miss out due to being cup-tied from playing earlier in the competition for Liverpool & Napoli. The other small piece of news is David Trezeguet’s number 17 has been chosen by compatriot Armand Traoré & Leandro Rinaudo takes the numer 26.
